While blogging can be a useful way of adding to a website's search engine optimization (SEO), it is vital the diary is regularly updated, an expert has explained.
An SEO programmer with optimization company Just Search has highlighted the importance of adding regular new content, ideally around one post a day.
He made his comments through the company's own online journal, urging marketers to participate in and link to other industry blogs.
These can be a useful source of insights into niche areas and creating two-way communications can boost rankings, the programmer continued.
However, he warned: "Although these factors play an important role in building a blogging community it is clear that content is still king. Readers will only come back to your site if they are gaining something from it."
According to internet marketing firm SEOmoz, building a community around a website is "one of the holy grails" of online marketing.
Its beginner's guide to increasing a site's traffic suggests that success is difficult but that a frequently updated blog is one good way of attracting regular visitors.
